COMMUNITY-BASED CARE FOR CHILDREN IN DIFFICULT CIRCUMSTANCES

Christmas Party

The children were really excited about the Christmas party this year. Lots of time and effort was spent practicing songs and dances which were performed on the night of the party. Christmas gifts were a highlight and encouragement for them. Many former home residents also came back to congratulate the children on this occasion.

Other activities

Visitors
Mr. Chris and his business colleagues visited  the Homes and the Phu Chau Sex Education project. The children had a good time with these
visitors.

Van Hoa reconstruction anh new concrete road in Tan Linh

We are happy to announce that the Van Hoa reconstruction has finally started.

Also a new concrete road from the gate to the yard of the Tan Linh Children's Home was built with funds from the commune and with assistance from the children's families.

 PROJECTS IN VAN CON

Checking how beneficiaries are using project loans

To ensure the loans were used effectively, we visited six beneficiary households to see how their businesses are developing.

Photos above: Visiting with Mrs. Lien, one of the loan beneficiaries.

Mrs. Lien's son shared with us some challenges they are facing in their textile business. These include: finding customers, low prices, competitors, and bad debt. He showed us how he records expenses. It seems he has some knowledge of financial management, but he needs to learn more skills so we invited him to enroll in the next class of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Project.

Mrs. Nen's family is raising 30 pigs and 15 dogs, and sells pork and chicken in the market to earn a living. She is learning livestock raising techniques to help reduce their disease risk. She said, "After attending the family business training I now see the importance of recording both family and business expenses. I know how much I have paid and now I can control my expenses better."

SMALL AND MEDIUM ENTERPRISES DEVELOPMENT PROJECT

Evaluating the ongoing activities of Phase I in Kim Chung

In 2015, The Kim Chung Business Association organised many activities to promote business networking. They attended training courses offered by the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI). They also actively exchanged ideas with nearby Dan Phuong, Thanh Xuan, and Phuc Tho Business Associations and organised  exposure trips to Phu Tho and Lao Cai Provinces. They also investigated a waste water treatment project for Yen Be Hamlet with The Ministry of Science and Technology. Of note is the Tung Lam Company, a member of the Association who won the Swiss Create Award for Excellent Production Management and received a Golden Business award from the Hanoi Business Association.

Mr. Cuong, a participant of Class 1, now has three different businesses. He shared that the business principles he learnt from the project have not only been helpful in his business, but also in his life. The business ideas he presented as a class project in the first training course, Business Model, in 2009, have been implemented successfully. He would like now to join more networking activities with his fellow participants in Class 1 as well as other classes so they can keep learning and developing together.

 Christmas and New Year Greetings

Hoai Duc leaders and Kim Chung Business Association members visited YWAM to give Christmas and New Year greetings. They expressed their thankfulness to YWAM for contributing to the positive business environment in Hoai Duc.

PROJECTS IN BAC GIANG

The Flower Club in Kham Lang Commune

With YWAM's technical support and by learning from each other, the households in the club are growing gladiolus flowers by themselves. They want to extend the scale of their club to create a good reputation in the market. This flower will be the main product for Kham Lang Commune in coming years.

Mr. Nguyen Van Lien's family plants gladiolus covering a land area of 2,160 m2. He is one of the pioneers in developing this flower in Kham Lang. He has good techniques to reduce costs. According to him, this flower brings high profit so he will continue to invest in this flower for sustainable income development and he is willing to share his knowledge with others if they want to join.

Training on "Household Economic Management"

Last month we continued to help households improve their skills in managing finances with lessons of making business plans, SWOT analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses. Opportunities, Threats), market research and other topics. Over 250 participants were very active in group discussions and presentations.

Mrs. Nguyen Thi Thu shared, "In the next crop, I will buy a notebook to record all my expenses in detail following your guidance to see how I am doing. Because we do not have the habit of writing and recording, sometimes we may suffer loss without knowing it."

Training on "Reproductive Health Care"

The training was done by Mrs. Nguyen Thi Mai Hoa, Vice chairman of Family Planning of Luc Nam District. Common diseases and basic treatments relating to reproductive health, especially for women, were addressed.

We need your help!
