HOAI DUC SMALL & MEDIUM ENTERPRISES PROJECT

Business Visits

This month, our international consultant worked on sales and distribution issues with seven businesses and five remote distributors. The consultant analyzed the situation and gave some advice for the business owners on how to organize effective sales channels. He also discussed challenges that many businesses face, pointing out that running a business at any cost might make businesses suffer losses.

Swiss Create Awards

The Audit Team working with the production division
The Swiss Create Award is an internationally recognized program encouraging business excellence. It is an incentive to help business owners improve their quality and growth. This month, we conducted the first audit with eight business. Participants who enroll in the program will receive professional feedback after each audit. The business leaders also have the chance to interact with jury members asking questions and receiving advice to improve all aspects of their businesses towards more sustainable growth.

COMMUNITY-BASED CHILDREN'S HOMES

New Winter Clothes for the Children
Our children are very excited to welcome this winter with new clothes. Not only will the clothes keep them warm in the colder months, they also bring joy to the children and remind them that they are special and valuable.

Annual Charity Bazaar and Fundraising
There are thirty three children currently living in our community-based children's homes that have yet to be sponsored. We still need to find many more people who will stand with us to build a brighter future for these children in difficult circumstances.  Recently we were able to share this need at Hanoi's International Churches and the Annual Charity Bazaar where several new sponsors came forward.

BA VÌ PROJECTS
Communication Night in Ba Trai Commune
A successful communication night about the benefits of using biogas to protect the environment and improve people's living conditions was held in Ba Trai commune. It attracted nearly one thousand attendees. The biogas messages were delivered very creatively by the local farmers using skits, songs, dances, and quizzes.
Sexual Education and Public Heath Project in Phu Chau Commune
Two training sessions on reproductive health were held targeting both mothers and teenagers, in Phu Chau commune. This attracted numerous health staff, teachers, and secondary-school students. Our focus is to train community trainers for long-term impact.

BAC GIANG PROJECTS

Training Needs Survey for Local Leaders

Improving leadership skills for local leaders contributes to improving the sustainability of our projects. We conducted a quick survey on the leaders needs in many different fields before organizing subsequent training courses.
Training for Local Leaders
Last month, we held a training day on household management skills and one day on communication and effective negotiation  skills for local leaders. Each training day attracted more than fifty participants and received positive feedback.

Training for Households
Though they may have been farming for many years, sometimes farmers are very confused when facing agricultural problems.  We held two days of training to support families involved in cultivation and livestock raising.

Our consultant training on how to take the chest measurement of the cow to calculate its weight
Workshops on Gender Balance and Family Violence
Two workshops on gender balance and family violence in Bao Son commune were attended by four hundred local people. Through such events we hope to mitigate direct and indirect problems stemming from family violence as well as gender imbalance.
Bao Son Preschool Teachers Apply New Skills
In August, our consultant trained on how to encourage children to participate in class and about making toys and equipment from recycled materials. A preliminary assessment shows that the teachers are applying what they learned about teaching and child care.
Bac Lung’s Health Clinic Information Room Repair
Together with the local leaders, we invest in a roof covering outside the Bac Lung heath clinic, where the information room is located. When mothers and children receive vaccinations they need to wait for 30 minutes to monitor any adverse reactions. Previously they had to stay in the hot sun or the rain and many would leave. Now there is a comfortable waiting area, which gives the health staff an opportunity to promote health messages.

OTHER ACTIVITIES

YWAM Leaders and Donors Visits

This month, YWAM International leaders and a group of donors from Australia visited our project sites. They enjoyed seeing the changes in the working environment of local businesses and in the lives of the poor. Putting their feet on the ground at a project site is an opportunity to help sponsors  better understand the project activities and the significance of the various projects they helped finance.
Steve Goode YWAM's Mercy Ministry Director visited a household which benefited from micro-credit
Xuan, a disabled child in Co Do, received support for medical care and  education.
