PROJECTS IN BAC GIANG

Bao Son Integrated Rural Development Project

Following the successes achieved in two hamlets in Phase I, YWAM and the Bao Son Commune signed a commitment for Phase II of this Integrated Rural Development Project for two more hamlets. The  project activities will include communication events, various training courses, the establishing of production teams with micro-credit and cow bank activities as well as upgrading another preschool.

The Phase I activities will continue under the guidance of the hamlet Board of Management and we will have a monitoring role. Some changes to ensure the increasing number of beneficiaries. We request higher responsibilities with stricter criteria to beneficiaries receiving calves from the project.

Household Visit

Mrs. Ngo Thi Quyt's family has benefited from the Cow Bank Project. Her husband is disabled thus cannot work. As a result, her family, which includes a son who is still in school, has faced many difficulties. After attending the project training courses, communication activities, and receiving a calf from the project, their life now is much better. One mindset change she adopted after training was a plan to invest in her son's continuing education in a vocational school instead of stopping his learning after high school. This would help him have long-term career development opportunities and a better income compared with working as an unskilled laborer.

We visited some households which attended family business training to see how they are applying of what was taught. Most of them were recording expenses and have improved their financial management.

PROJECTS IN VAN CON

Exchange Workshop on Sustainable Community Development with PKSK Delegates from Bangladesh

YWAM's director, Roslyn Jackson, shared some key factors which lead to more local participation and facilitate mindset change as well as methods for approaching new communities. Many questions related to project implementation processes using YWAM’s operating principles were raised by the PKSF (Palli Karma - Sahayak Foundation)  delegates were answered.

They also visited two successful households within the project to see first hand how they developed their business.

Mrs. Hoa, a phase I project beneficiary, currently raises 3,200 chickens and 2,000 ducks on her small farm. She shared with the visitors that through YWAM’s project, her income has increased significantly.

"I see the importance of learning more about animal raising techniques and then sharing my experience with others. Now I not only attended the project's trainings, but also other training offered by the district.  My husband and I are continuously trying to improve our animal raising practices." she said.

International Women's Day Celebration in Quyet Tien Hamlet

At the International Women's Day Anniversary celebration in Quyet Tien Hamlet, YWAM staff took the opportunity to share project information and encouraged local people to have a positive attitude in doing business for a better harvest in Van Con. Commune leaders recognized the contribution of women towards the commune's development. The hamlet leader recommended practicing safe farming, collective farming, and having a passion for learning to improve income generation.

 PROJECTS IN BA VI

Biogas

Household Survey

Demand for biogas digesters is rising due to increasing livestock production, especially dairy cows in Tan Linh Commune. Currently many areas do not have drains for animal waste causing heavy pollution.

Monitoring Project Loan Use

Before the latest round of  loan disbursement, a training session was organised and we recommended appropriate sized digesters for new project beneficiaries. Ongoing household visits ensure the effective use of loan money.

Mr. Bach Cong Tung's family raises 19 pigs, 20 chickens and 2 cows. They took a project loan to build a 17-cubic-meter biogas digester. Now their living area is further from the animal pens and the pollution which was negatively affecting their health has been greatly reduced.

COMMUNITY-BASED CARE FOR CHILDREN IN DIFFICULT CIRCUMSTANCES

Renewing Contract with Phu Chau Commune People's Committee

Our Phu Chau Children's Home received a very positive evaluation after 3 years serving the community. In order to continue to help children in difficult circumstances to have safer living conditions and to keep them integrated in their community, the Phu Chau Commune People's Committee and YWAM signed a contract to continue the project for the next 3 years.

Van Hoa building renovation

We are happy to see the progress of the reconstruction of the Van Hoa Children's home and now two of the four buildings are almost finished. If you would like to help partner with us in providing care for these orphans and children in extremely difficult circumstances please contact us as we have lots of opportunities to make a big difference in children's lives.

Rebuilding the broken down fence

Rebuilding the fence in the Tan Linh's Home was started. The meeting was held between the project Board of Management, the neighbors and home staff and misunderstandings were t was solved. The fence should be done in next two weeks.

We need your help!

Would you like to partner with us in these projects? We are still looking for more sponsors for children in our community-based homes. If you would like to sponsor a child, or would like to give a one-time gift to help support children in difficult circumstances, please contact us at the address below.
