TET IN THE CHILDREN'S HOMES
Tet Greetings to You!
We wish you a Wonderful Spring as we welcome the Lunar New Year (Tet)! Thanks to all the organizations and individual partners who have helped and cooperated with YWAM in the past year. (Below are photos of some opportunities we had to give Tet greetings to local community leaders.)
PROJECTS IN BAC GIANG
Checking Production Team Activities
From the initial eight mother pigs in the Wild Pig model in Bac Giang, we now have fifty-two pigs and the growth continues. The Tet holiday is a chance for the local people to sell these pigs at a good price. For the last two years, we have actively supported these farmers in building a brand name and to find suitable markets.
In the cow bank project, each new round of calves means more families are benefiting from the continually revolving loans. Mrs. Them's family is one of over one-hundred household beneficiaries. Their cow is being well taken care of. In the next five months, her family's cow will have it's first calf and the calf will be transferred to another poor household.
Library Visit in Bac Lung Secondary School
After receiving support from YWAM, the library in Bac Lung Secondary School is running effectively. Mr. Ngoc, the headmaster shared: "Reading is now a designated activity for one period a week for each class in this school. We are regularly updating the books for library." The child friendly library in Bac Lung has been a model for many other schools in this location to visit and learn from.
Hygiene Campaign
A special day was organised by the Kham Lang people’s committee to clean up the road to welcome in the Year of the Goat. This campaign attracted many local residents and representatives of  the hamlets.

BA VI PROJECTS
Biogas Projects
Last month, we added another ten households to the number of households who have received loans from the project to build biogas.
Community Assistance
We still support  many children in especially difficult circumstances in Ba Vi in order to improve their quality of life.
SEXUAL EDUCATION & PUBLIC HEALTH PROJECT IN PHU CHAU
Training of Trainers
Our consultant had two days for “Training Of Trainers” includeding  local leaders. They are learning the knowledge and skills to mobilize the participation of the community.

CHILDREN HOMES
Tet 2015
For the children in our children's homes, Tet is the time to work together making Chung Cake (a traditional rice cake made from sticky rice, mung bean paste and pork). They also get some new clothes. These cakes they take back to share with their extended families when they visit them during the Tet holidays.
Other Activities
The children are trying out their new energy efficient cooking-stoves that were recently purchased from Solar Serve in Danang, which will make preparing meals in the Homes much easier.
The vegetable garden was harvested. The children are very excited to receive the produce that they have grown.

VAN CON PROJECT
Board of Management Meeting
The Van Con project’s Board of Management held a meeting to review lessons-learnt from the project's Phase I and set goals for Phase II. The local leaders highly appreciated the project result in improving the local economy and considered it as an opportunity to learn for themselves.
Every household must have a business plan before getting a loan from the project. In the first  loan transfer, 30 business plans have been approved, seventy percent of which are about cultivation and livestock raising and the remaining thirty percent are for small service businesses. Loans will be continuously revolving to the other households.
Follow Up on Family Business
We visited the households who had a feasible plan and received a loan from the project.
Mrs. Be has a small clothing shop in the local market. Previously, she never thought that her shop should have a name or advertise to attract customers. After attending our "Household Income Generation" training course in the last month. She decided to borrow capital to re-arrange her shop making it more attractive and orderly.
Mrs. Vinh has a garment shop in Van Con hamlet. She shared with us about her challenges: it’s hard to keep skillful workers, and she does not yet have effective cost management. After participating in project training, she has arranged her production area again and is now retaining workers by paying good wages to them.
Another family in Van Con commune has a variety store. They have many new ideas to run their business but weak management, such as no recording of their financial transactions, and no storage management, hinders their development. After the training, they now understand the importance of these basic skills and are beginning to put them into practice.
Continuing to visit nearly a dozen households, we realized that the major weakness are not know how to manage finances, and being passive in finding outlets for increased product sales. The Board of Management members visited households to guide them on how to monitor their finances. Participating in project activities, they have more opportunities to continue to improve their family economic situation  for sustainable development.

HOAI DUC SMALL AND MEDIUM ENTERPRISES PROJECT
Providing Technical Support
With our desire to improve working environments, we continued to provide technical support in the implementation of 5S to optimize production.
Swiss Create Award
From the results of the Audit conducted at the end of last year, we have sent audit reports to all participating businesses. We see a particularly high commitment to work on the detected issues by the Viet My Company. The company leaders have made a follow up plan to improve in the future. When we visited the workplace, we were more than happy to see that some issues which were in need of improvement had already been addressed by the workers, such as painting some machines, and reordering some work spaces.
Year-End Meeting
Kim Chung Business Association
Active in connecting almost a hundred businesses in the commune, recently, the Kim Chung business association has became a member of the Ha Noi Small and Medium Enterprises Association. It will be the foundation for further growth of Kim Chung association.
Thai Duong Joint-Stock Company
After one year of support, we feel change from the management team and in each worker while attending the Thai Duong Year-end Meeting. The Board of Leaders has new ideas to mobilize employees’ spirit. Thai Duong workers shared their happiness and pride in being a member of the company.
